Starting to work on your relationship with yourself is an intense journey, but sometimes it can feel as if you haven’t made any progress at all. So here are 6 subtle signs that you are healing.
1. Breaking old habits
Finding that those old destructive habits that you used to have are slowly vanishing or being replaced with new ones that ACTUALLY make you feel good? Or even just realising that the habits that you have are destructive is another sure sign that you are on the road to healing!
2. Feeling less anxious around food
Food is an emotive subject for a lot of people and can feel like a breath of fresh air when you are able to feel less anxious about eating something! Depending on the severity of the anxiety it may be unnoticed that you are feeling less anxious, but it is a sure fire way to see that things are definitely changing!
3. Being able to eat without guilt
Having that cake that you really fancied, or maybe having that extra serving of dessert when at a dinner party without that little nagging voice in your head is probably one of the best feelings in the world! It not only helps you realise how far you have come in your journey but also helps you stay present and actually enjoy yourself!
4. Setting and maintaining boundaries
This can be what you allow people to say to you, having only designated time to spend on social media, or just sticking to your daily non-negotiables! Doing and sticking to things that make you feel good and protect your energy is an important part of your journey even if it is scary!
5. Noticing old thought patterns and moving through them
This one is a big one! Our minds play a massive role in what we think of ourselves, thanks to automatic thoughts (these are thoughts that pop up without us thinking and typically what we are conditioned to think I.E I look X way in this outfit). So noticing when we have this negative thought that normally would send us in a downward spiral to simply brushing past them is a HUGE sign that you are healing!
6. Forgiving yourself
We are so quick to be able to forgive other people but forgiving ourselves? It seems near impossible, so when we stop beating ourselves up and remembering that we too can make mistakes it can be life changing!
Not all of these signs may be prominent for you and maybe none of them show up – but that doesn’t mean that you aren’t healing! Everything that you do to work towards a better body image or relationship with food will have an impact just keep note of how it may effect you.
